On row-column directed block designs

چکیده
Given a BIBD(v,k,A) we can construct a directed BIBD(v,k,A*) by writing each block of the BIBO twice, the second time in the reversed order. Here we prove the analagous expected but useful result that if a BIBD(v,b,r ks,k,A) exists, then a RCOBIBD(v,k,A *} also exists. A nonexistence result is also given.

On generalized Howell designs with block size three
In this paper, we examine a class of doubly resolvable combinatorial objects. Let t, k, λ, s and v be nonnegative integers, and let X be a set of v symbols. A generalized Howell design, denoted t-GHDk(s, v;λ), is an s × s array, each cell of which is either empty or contains a k-set of symbols from X, called a block, such that: (i) each symbol appears exactly once in each row and in each column...
متن کاملOptimal Row-Column Design for Three Treatments
The A-optimality problem is solved for three treatments in a row-column layout. Depending on the numbers of rows and columns, the requirements for optimality can be decidedly counterintuitive: replication numbers need not be as equal as possible, and trace of the information matrix need not be maximal. General rules for comparing 3 × 3 information matrices for their A-behavior are also develope...
متن کاملComparison of Experimental Designs for Clonal Forestry Using Simulated Data
Various alternatives for the design of clonal field trials in forestry were studied using simulated data to identify “optimal” or “near-optimal” scenarios for the estimation of genetic parameters. The simulated field site consisted of a rectangular grid on which 256 clones with 8 ramets each were installed. Estimates of genetic parameters were compared for (1) single-tree and four-tree row plot...
متن کاملA Class of Optimal Row-column Designs with Some Empty Cells
Agrawal (1966) constructed a series of row column designs with rowcolumn incidence structure J − I . We show that there exist designs which strongly dominate Agrawal’s designs for all v ≥ 4 and are therefore to be preferred with respect to any optimality criterion. These dominating designs are E-optimal within the entire class of such row-column designs and are also highly Aand D-efficient. Som...
متن کاملRow-column designs for comparing treatments with a control
This paper considers the problem of the design and analysis of experiments for comparing several treatments with a control when heterogeneity is to be eliminated in two directions. A class of row-column designs which are balanced for treatment vs. control comparisons (referred to as the balanced treatment vs. control row-column or BTCRC designs) is proposed. These designs are analogs of the so-...
